REP. LAVIELLE ENDORSED BY CT BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION (CBIA)

WILTON, October 15, 2018 — The CT Business and Industry Association (CBIA) has endorsed State Representative Gail Lavielle (R-143) for reelection on to the General Assembly’s 143rd House district, which includes parts of Norwalk, Westport, and Wilton.

“In your time in the legislature, you have shown a strong commitment to promoting an environment where companies can compete, attract much-needed investment to our state, and drive economic growth and job creation,” wrote Joseph F. Brennan, CBIA President and CEO, in a letter to Rep. Lavielle dated October 8. “We appreciate your willingness to work with the business community and look forward to working together over the next two years to reduce the size and cost of government, make Connecticut more affordable, and make this an even better state to live, work, and raise a family.”

CBIA is Connecticut’s largest business organization. It describes itself on its web site as “the leading voice for business in the state, representing thousands of member companies, small and large, across a diverse range of industries”.

“To restore our economy and make Connecticut competitive as a place to do business, we must listen to business owners and executives who tell us that what they need most to grow and create jobs are a reduction in their ongoing structural costs, and, above all, consistent, reliable tax and regulatory policy,” said Rep. Lavielle. “Economic development policies that are based primarily on singling out individual companies for one-time giveaways have dismissed that feedback. We must help all businesses, not just a few, thrive by creating a climate that gives them confidence that Connecticut is a place where they can invest and make long-term business plans. CBIA shares these goals, and I am grateful for its endorsement and its strong advocacy for Connecticut’s business community.”

Rep. Lavielle has earned the endorsement of three organizations that are distinguished by their advocacy for a strong business climate and jobs in Connecticut. In addition to CBIA, she has been endorsed by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) and the Connecticut REALTORS®.

Rep. Lavielle serves as Assistant House Minority Leader. She is Ranking Member of the General Assembly’s Education Committee and a member of the Finance, Revenue, and Bonding Committee, the Transportation Committee, and the bipartisan Manufacturing Caucus. She has also served as Commerce Committee Ranking Member, and as a member of the Appropriations Committee and the Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee. Before entering public service, Rep. Lavielle worked for more than 25 years in finance, marketing, and communication, holding executive leadership positions with Fortune 500 corporations. She served as Chief Executive of a subsidiary of the Interpublic Group and as a Senior Vice President of Suez Environment, the leading international water and wastewater services company. In addition to an MA from Yale and a BA from Cornell, she holds an MBA in Finance from UConn.
